Sexual Anorexia
Are you bothered by a shift in your sexual desire?
Sexual Anorexia or Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder is characterized by a lack of sexual desire or an absence of sexual interest.
This can show up in a variety of ways:
Avoiding sex with your partner?
Complete loss of sexual appetite?
Able to only enjoy some sexual touch (i.e. cuddling)?
Often shut down sexual initiation from your partners?
Does the change in sexual desire cause concern for you?
A change in sexual desire and sexual appetite can occur for many reasons:
Neurochemical or hormone changes
Chronic pain
Medication side-effects
Body-Image Issues
Shame
Stress
Psychological Issues
Relationship Issues
Uncertainty of Sexual Competency
The good news is there is hope to reconnect to your sexual self! I am compassionate and sensitive to how difficult it can be to experience a decrease in sexual desire. I can help you discover what you need to re-ignite that passionate flame inside and not live in shame. Please contact me if you’re interested in working with this issue.
Sexual Anorexia and Compulsive Sexuality
Sometimes people become sexually anorexic due to their formal sexual compulsivity. They shut off all sexual contact because they are afraid of relapsing into out-of-control sexuality. The good news is there is hope to recover from compulsive and aversion disorders to sexual intimacy. Many of my clients who were unable to maintain sobriety prior to counselling, describe having more choice and satisfaction in their sexual behaviours, less shame, and are more emotionally regulated in their day-to-day lives. Please read more under compulsive sexual behaviour if you’re interested in working on this issue.
